AJ.C, SPRING MEETING. • ST. CARWYNE WINS THE METROPOLITAN. By Cable— Press Association—Copyright Received Oct. 4, 7.15 p.m. Sydney, Oct. 4.

The weather was fine to-day for the second day of the meeting, and the going was hard. The attendance was large. William the Silent monopolised the Metropolitan Handicap betting, St. Carwyne and Reputation sharing second honors. The favorite ran a good race, but St. Carwyne overhauled him at the distance, scoring after a magnificent finish.. Colonel Soult and Football were not sighted. SHORTS.—Gigandra 1, Panaera 2, Fend 3. There were fifteen starters. Won easily by one and three-quarter lengths, three-quarters of a length between second and third. Time, lmin 13Jsec.

CLIBBORN STAKES.—Cetigne 1, Westeeurt 2, Jingle 3. Seven starters. Won by a length, third horse four lengths away. Time, lmin 45Jsec. METROPOLITAN HANDICAP, of 5000 sovs, 11 miles. — Mr. W. Dalley's ch h St. Carwyne, Bst 81b 1 William the Silent, Gst 121b 2 Reputation, Sst 131b 3 Scratched: Hayston, Simon Frisco, and Rue Victoria. From the start Roya.l Rufus led the way for a mile, when William the Silent assumed command and led into the straight, St. Carwyne and Reputation coming fast. St. Carwyne overhauled the leader at the distance, and after an exciting finish won by half a length, Reputation two lengths away. Time, 2min 33Jsec.

STEEPLES.—Briar Berry L Canadium 2, Wadden 3. Nine started. The Pole lost his rider. A great race; won by a head, rive lengths between second and third. Time, Smin 29Jsec. BREEDERS' PLATE, of 2000 sovs; five furlongs.—Wolaroi 1, Sister Satellite 2, Lucky Dip 3. There were thirtyfive starters. Won by three lengths, Lucky Dip two lengths away. Time, lmin ljsec. SQUATTERS' HANDICAP.-La Balfour 8.8. I, Toatere 9.C 2, Machine Boy 9.2 3. Twenty starters. Won by three lengths, a head between second and third. Time, 2min Bsec.
