THE UNDER-WATER MENACE. SIXTY SUBMARINES DESTROYED. Received Get: 3, 3.30 p.m. Washington, Oct. 2. The Government are studying the British methods of dealing with submarines, with a view to their adoption. These include a special type of mine destroyers, trawlers, and sea-going motor-boats (armed with light guns) and aeroplanes. The statement is made that already sixty submarines have been destroyed. GERMAN SEAPLANE ADRIFT. Received Oct. 3, 2.40 p.m. Copenhagen, Oct. 2. A German seaplane has been picked up, without a crew, oft' Trellabong. TALLY OF THE PIRATES. LIST FOR .SEPTEMBER. Received Oct. 4, 12.5 a.m. London, Oct. 2. Twenty-seven merchantmen, aggregating Bu,ooo tons, and six fishing boats were sunk by submarines in September.
