Out of the victims of the Lusitania, torpedoed by a German submarine, was T. O'Brien Butler, a well-known composer of Irish songs. Butler's real name was Whitwell. His most ambitious work was an Irish opera, entitled "Muirghers," which was produced at the Theatre Royal, Dublin, during December, 1003. One of his songs, "Cincoradh," was the test number in the competition for Irish soprano solo singing at this years' Feis Ceoil at Dublin on May 10— three days later than the Lusita.nia tragedy. Mr. Butler was born at County Kerry, and studied at the Royal College of Musia under Sir Charles Stanford
