A. NOTED LABOR LEADER. MR. J,, KEffi HARDIE. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. London, Sept. 26. The death is announced of Mr. Keir Hardie, aged 57 years, from pneumonia, Mr. James Keir Hardie, the famous British labor agitator and politician, was born in Scotland and worked in a coalmine from the age of 8 until he was 24. He entered Parliament as representative for South-west Ham in 1892, and became M.P. for Merthyr-Tydfil in 1900. He was chairman and chief organiser of the Independent Labor Party till 1000* and he was also proprietor and editor of the Labour Leader. After the general election of 1606 he became recognised as the leader in the House of Commons of the then definitely constituted Labor Party, but in 1914 he announced that he would not seek re-election as charon»n of the party.
