STRATFORD.
(From Our Omn Correspondent.) Mr. J. Jordan, formerly postmaster at Whangamomona, but now of Port Awamii, is on a holiday visit to his parents in Stratford. The "Dardanelles Market" taking 3 on ■Saturday amounted to £ls and well over £4 worth of tobacco and cigarettes were donated for our boys at the front. The fishing season opens on October 1, and anglers are looking forward to some good sport. Fish are stated to be very numerous in the different rivers.
Tt is high time the Borough authorities insisted upon lamps showing red lights being placed on excavations being made in the street. The street is opened up near the Loan Company's buildings for the purpose of extending the .drainage, and ordinary lights are placed over the spot at night. Last Saturday .evening a motor car narrowly missed going over the place. If the red lights were used it would be almost impossible for accidents to happen.
