ANNUAL MEETINGS LAW CRICKET CLUB. Members of the above club met on Friday afternoon, Mr, J, H, QmlEarn (president) psesiding over a fair attendance. . ANNUAL REPORT. The annual report was as follows: "We ioramenced the season with a cash balance in hand of £9 16s Sd, -which is now increased to £lO 13s 7d, <u«i we have material Worth about £B. W« bad another very enjoyable season, as, although we won vefy few matches, mpst of them resulted in very close finishes, thereby causing on several occasions intense excitement to both spectators and players. In the latter part of the season we were unfortunate in losing the services of Mr. Lash through a severe accident to his right hand, but we all hope that when we again take the field he will be able to take his place with us, Mr. Elliott won the bowling average, taking 53 wickets at an average of 9.9 and Mr. Lash with an averago of 25.2 for 20 innings topped that of the batting. Three representative matches were played during the season, but this club was not represented in either team. The innovation of the new scale of points—2 for a win on the first innings, 3 if on a second innings, and 1 for a draw, and deducing the same number from the losers —proved very interesting and successful, keeping up the interest in the competition right up to the last match played, as was claimed would be the ease. The setting up of the Cricket Council also proved a good thing for cricket, and the members of that body deserve the thanks of all cricketers for the work done by thcin. Unfortunately, owing to the war, they were unable to make any definite arrangements for a permanent ground, but did a lot in inspecting different likely grounds and gathering information, which will be very useful when an opportune time arrives for doing something definite. Owing to the last-mentioned reason we have lost and are losing two members, namely, Messrs. Reg. and Eon. Quiliiam, the former being already in the firing-line and the latter shortly leaving for-the front. Mr. Lawrey will join join us again, as he has returned to New Plymouth, and probably Mr. Bollock will join us, as he is an old cricketer and has taken up his residence here, so that wo will no doubt be able to raise a team for the coming season; but your committee is of the opinion that we should not enter our team for the usual Association Competition, but simply confine ourselves to playing friendly games as occasion offers. As there is a credit balance in hand of over £lO, your committee recommends that five guineas be donated to qne of the patriotic funds; and, as there is not likely to be any large outlay required for material this season," suggests that Rule G (relating to annual subscriptions) be suspended for this season, and that each member be asked to contribute 10s 6d before November 1, which will then be given (to the extent of five guineas) to some other of the patriotic funds. At the end of tyst season our members were the guests of the New PI n Cricket Club (winners of the -Mur, iy Competition last season) at a nu,i;c ioncert, and we wish to thank (b«.„ *„i. the hospitality extended to us on jjj a) llu i other oeca . sions. Your committee wish to aoftia
thank the president, both vice-presi-dents, and hon. members lor financial support, the Hon. Mr. Samuel for the use of his office for the annual meeting, all outgoing officers for services rendered, and particularly the press for the large amount of space devoted to cricket generally." , The report and balance-sheet were adopted, on thp motion of Mr. Quilliam, seconded by Mr. Bcwley. ELECTION OF OFFICERS. Officers were elected as follows.— President, Mr. J. H. Quilliam; vice-pre-sidents, Messrs. A. H. Johnstone and J. E. Wilson; captain, A. Bewley, hon. secretary and treasurer, E. Lash; hon. auditor, S. Cottier; committee, V. Elliott, T. P. Anderson, A. C. Lawrey, with the captain and secretary; selection committee, A. Bewley and E. Lash; delegates to the association, A. C. Lawrey and T. P. Anderson; delegate to the New Plymouth Cricket Council, V. Elliott.
It was decided that £5 5s of the money now in hand be expended on the purchase of "smokes" for the New Zealand soldiers at the front. It was also decided that Rule 6 be suspended for the season, and that £5 5s of the subscriptions be devoted to the Belgian Fund.
Votes of thanks were, accorded the outgoing officers and to the chair.

It is expected that very little expenditure will be necessary this season. The club, usual, entered one team for the Saturday competition, and although they held a commanding lqad for some .time, a succession of reverses late in the season change the team's position, it eventually occupying second place, but, of 15 matches played, 10 were won, and five lost; points gained 11, against 13 obtained by the New Plymouth , Club who won the competition, and we heartily congratulate them on their success. K. B. Bain headed the hatting with an- average of 37.8 runs, and although this player had £b be content with second , place in the bowling, his figures show a very good performance for . bowling, 256.5 overs he had 63 maidens at. the cost of 559 runs for 75 wickets. E. Ingram won the bowling with an average of 4.3, obtaining six wickets aj the cost of 23 runs.
