DEATH OF PRIVATE R. BAILY.
FROM WOUNDS RECEIVED Ml ACTION. A catyfe received by Mr, Hugh Baily, of N«w last night, conveyed the sad intelligence that nil son, Private Ronald Baily, died in London on Saturday afternoon. A short while ago, Private B»ily was admitted to the Fulham Hospital, London, from the' Dardanelles, suffering from a wound in the leg, and blood poisoning. For sime time it was hoped his leg would be saved, but last week a cable was received stating that the leg had been amputated, .but his condition wag satisfactory. Further good news was received up till Saturday morning, when Mr. Baily received a cable that his son's condition was unsatisfactory, but aa the <: able added his condition was not hopeless it did not prepare 'his parents for the shopk of hearing of his death.
Private Baily, who Was 23 years of age, was one of the most popular young men in New Plymouth and his death will be keenly regretted by a large circle of friends, who' will deeply sympathise with Mr. and Mrs. Baily" in the loss of their only son. After being educated at the New/Plymouth,High Scuooi, Private Baily entered his father'# office. A few years ago he joined the clerical staff of the New Plymouth Borough oil, and when war broke out he Wnih«i« of the first to offer his sendees; Private Ball;/ was a kein golfer. In h:s school days he was instrumental in forming a golf club in connection with the High School, following this up In after years by winning the championship of the Tarahua Club, and, subsequently, that of the New Plymouth Club, in 1013. In the greater game lie played his part well. He went away with the Main Expeditionary Force, and after fighting on Gallipoli with the infantry for some time, he was selected for a battery and had charge of a gun. How he received his wound ig not known; in fact, no mention of 'Private Bftily has ever been made in the official records of casualties, and it was through relatives in London that his parents heard of him. The funeral of Private Baily will take place in London- on Wednesday. Before the commencement of the service at St. Mary's Church last night, the vicar, ithe Rev. A. H. Colvile, referred to the dbath of Private Daily, a special hymn hieing sung, and special prayer* offered. *
