It is claimed for the Tasman district of Nelson that no other part of the world I offers such a perfect combination of soil and climatic conditions for apple growing. The inventor is F. W. Thomp. son, a Christchurch dentist, and after the device had been shown to a conference of medical men the Government promptly ordered a big supply. Some doctors venture the opinion that the splint will soon be used by every.army in the world." Mr. Thompson has elaborated the device, which is now provided with shock-absorbing springs. It can be adjusted to any requirement, and entirely obviates the jolting and jarring that are objectionable in the old-fash-ioned splint. The ingenuity of the contrivance, its lightness and cleanliness, are favorably commented on by all the doctors who have seen it. Mr. Thompson's thought was primarily for his own son, who is at the Dardanelles, and it is considered that the idea which so had its origin will give relief to thousands of our wounded heroes.
