A ROUGH EXPERIENCE.
THE PALOONA IN A GALE. >j Telegraph.—Pres« Association Wellington, Lost Night. The Paloona arrived at Wellington at 8.30 to-night, after an exceedingly stormy voyage of twenty-nine hours from Napier, a trip which generally occupi«s about sixteen hours. Shortly after leaving Napier, at 3 p.m. on Monday, the vessel ran into a terrific southerly gale, with mountainous head seas, and plunged so heavily and caused the propeller to race so badly, that it was necessary to slow the engines down. Throughout the night the vessel logged only 3| to 6 knots per hour. The gale continued with unabated force until noon to-day, when conditions improved, and the Paloona was enabled to proceed full speed ahead. The heavy seas which poured aboard fore and aft slightly damaged some of the deck fittings. 'The vessel will leave Wellington for Lyttelton and Dunedin at 4 p.m. on Wednesday.
