IN THE WEST
AN ATTACK ON OSTEND. MUCH DAMAGE DONE. HEAVY GERMAN LOSSES. , Wellington, Sept. 20. The High Commissioner reports, under date London, September 19, 5.40 p.m.:— It is reported from Amsterdam that the British fleet destroyed Cstend breakwater, fortifications, and all the enemy boats and work. The German losses reach thousands.
POSITION UNCHANGED. SIR JOHN FRENCH'S REPORT. Received Sept. 20, 5.5 p.m. London, Sept. 19. Sir John French reports that the position is unchanged since Sept. 15. There has been considerable mining activity on both sides, particularly in the southern sectors, and the artillery is active east of Ypres.
IN NORTHERN FRANCE. | FRENCH OFFICIAL REPORT. Paris, Sept. 19. A communique states that south-west of Peronne the Germans attacked, after exploding a very powerful mine, but were repulsed. The regions of Berry-au-Bac and Champagne, north of the Camp de Chalons, were marked by artillery activity on both sides. East of St. Mihiel we put out of action a German anti-aircraft battery.
