THE RECRUITING CAMPAIGN. Sydney, Sept. IS. A further recruiting campaign will open on October 9. Yesterday was the worst day on record since the war began, only 31 enlisting. The Paddington Political Labor League carried a motion urging l the executive to dissociate the Lafbor movement from the Universal Service League. Melbourne, Sept. 18. ,Mr. Pearce, in a recruiting statement, emphasised the fact that he wanted all the men he could get, and that lie was not content with fixed quotas from each State. Perth, Sept. 18. A Sportsmen's Battalion is being organised.
WOMEN AS POLICE. Sydney, Sept. 18. The secretary of the New South Wales Alliance eulogises the temperance work done by the new policewomen. It is, however, felt impossible that two women should do justice to positions in a city like Sydney, and the Alliance stronglv urges additional appointments.
