IN THE WEST
NEW CAMPAIGN PROBABLE. WEST FRONT IMPREGNABLE. WHERE GERMANY MADE A MISTAKE. Received Sept. 19, 5.20 p.m. London, Sept. 18. The Daily Telegraph's correspondent at Rotterdam says that reliable information indicates that Austria and Germany are embarking on a new campaign. Austrian newspapers for several days were not permitted to leave the country and postal communications with Austria and Germany were suspended. Few travellers are permitted to cross the Dutch or Swiss frontiers.
A German staff officer in Belgium recently expressed the opinion that the Allies' West front is impregnable, and it is more than likely that the new blow will bo struck at either Italy or Serbia. In the event of it being the latter country an ulterior motive is involved which will probably influeuce certain of the Balkan States.
The transfer of laisge numbers of Germans from the East front had already begun and the movement proved to be premature, a mistake whereof the Russians in Galicia had taken splendid advantage. These withdrawals were imposed by force of circumstances connected with Austria's share in the new offensive which will soon be in operation. Immense movements have been observed in the Austro-Germany move towards Italy and Serbia, but possibly this is a feint, and a preliminary to another attempt at hacking through the West front.
