A SENTBY'S MISTAKE. The arrest of a man unknown to. him, and who proved to be a notability, was one of the experiences which fell to the lot of Private M. F. Boyle's attention was suddenly centred upon an approaching form attired in civilian clothes. Not liking the look oE him, and with visions of Turkish spies, the sentry covered the stranger with his rifle and commanded him to halt and put up his hands. He was instantly obeyed. On being asked to state his identity and his business within the New Zealand lines, he answered only with an inscrutable smile. "I'll hare to arrest you, my man," said Private Boyle. lie did so, the stranger making no protest, and amiably accompanying his captor to the quarters of the nearest officer. To the lattev the sentry reported, "A prisoner, sir.'' The latter was told to step forward, and having done so, the officer laughed as he recognised him. "Why, man," said he, turning to Private Boyle, "you have captured Fliglit Commander 'Sampson, of the British aerial corps." "It was him all right," said the New Zealander, in relating the story. "He had had his little joke at my expense, but he made it clear to the officer thut I was not to blame and had only done my duty."
