RACING FIXTURES. Sept. 18.—Avondale J.C. Spring. Sept. 23, 25.—Wanganui J. C. Spring. Sept. 27, 28,—Otaki R.C. Spring. TURF, TOPICS. (By "Moturoa.") Concluding day at Avondale. Wanganui races on Thursday and Saturday. The starting at Avondale on Wednes-day-was only fair. Lady Elysian is a two-year-old worth kc-tpiug in mind. Black Northern won very easily on Wednesday, and should be favorite again to-day, Two of the Lupin progeny, King Lupin and Gallupin, yron consecutive events on Wednesday. Guiding Way does not win very often, font the public always seem to be on him when he lifts it. An exchange states that Albert Rhodes, who was recently disqualified for two years, has enlisted in 'Stralia. Glucian, Rulhill, and Wartime fell in the Maiden on Wednesday, but Mr. Gordon reckoned it was purely accidental.. Big fields are always dangerous at" Avondale. King Lupin was favored with a "fly" in the Flying Stakes, and the chestnut was ne*er caught. Under the circs. Loyal Arch did well to struggle into third berth. She was not sighted until well' up the straight. They' reckoned that Pendopn was a sljre.catch in the Hack Welter, and when McFlynn took him up to Gallupin going albng the back it looked good. At ,the turn Pendoon collapsed, leaving Gallupin to win comfortably from Hemisphere and Miss' Avalanche. SpaJperion was made a slightly better favorite than Black Northern in the Grey Lynn Hurdles, but thß latter looked the best bet. Spalperion led for Six furlongs, but Black Northern could be restrained no longer, and, streaking to the front, made an exhibition of the field. They went for Soultane with their mouths open on Wednesday, and Deeley made no mistake. Hopping out in front with Try Fluke, Soultane came right away at the turn, and won by a couple of lengths from Multifual. If they back Crown Pearl or Glenroy to-day you will have to put on your running shoes to get "set." Crown Pearl got away badly and then ran into fourth place at the finish. I Ben Deeley was riding in great form -at Avondale, piloting three consecutive winners and a second. Incidentally, he rode his sixth Avondale Stakes winner, and his victory in the Cup was the second to his credit. Ben is head-and-shoulders above the rest of New Zealand riders at the present time. Lady Jack and Ritasea were best backed in the Stakes. After a false start, Lady Elysian, Juanna, and RekanuK broke the line, with Lady Jack close up. The favorite put in a nice run two furlongs from home, and won cleverly by nearly a length from Lady Elysian, with Rekanui a similar distance away, third, and Waiutu fourth. The Avondale Cup produced a fine finish. Loloma made practically all the runnings, and was closely attended by Red Book entering the straight. Then Castalia, Konnuala, and Royal Irish challenged. A great race home saw Castalia win by a neck from Loloma, who deadheated with Pionnuala. Royal Irish was a head away, and then came Red Book, Tinopai, Goldsize, and Mummer. Blueb"ione was pulled up after going five fni'longs, his rider losing a stirrup. On Wednesday's form Gallupin, Fionnuala, Black Northern, Lady Elysian, and George's elect should all be well backed to-day. Lady Elysian was well backed away from the course for the Avondale Stakes, and paid a fine price for Becond place. The fields in< the hurdle races at Wanganui will be very small. Silver Bullet is now racing with considerable success in the unregistered ranks in Victoria. Reputation and Colonel Sonlt should represent New Zealand well at the spring meetings in 'Stralia. Both horßes are very well at present. ' Five New Zealand Cup candidates ra«ed at Ashburton, and all shaped well. Snub and Redshire won, and All Ready scored a second, and Fender ran third.
