SMALL SUCCESSES IN. G ALICIA, Received Sept. 15, 1.15 a.m. "J Pctrograd, Sept. H, IA communique says:—The enemy by a .vigorous offensive westward and southwestward of Dvinsk cut the railway in the vicinity of Novo Svlentziany. Owing to the pressure in the region between the Novo Svlentziany and the Vilna districts we retired to the neighbourhood of Poddrodgo. The enemy are considerably reinforced. In the Sludel region the enemy are advancing cautiously on the roads from the lino to Volkkrovysk- | Kartuszkne-Bereza eastwards. The Rusrians in Tarnopol district, under a hurricane of artillery fire, progressed and took many prisoners. They repelled the Germans, who are retiring northwards. Generally speaking the Austro-Germans' efforts have been directed to maintaining the appearance of an offensive, but their losses are altogether disproportionate to the results.
