BOWLERS AND THE WAR.

' TARAJS'AKI CENTRE TO .DISCUSS SCHEME TO HELP. . The best way in which bowlers can club together and assist the soldiers in the fighting lino will be discussed at a special meeting of the Taranaki Bowling Centre, to be held at the New Plymouth Club's pavilion at 11 o'clock to-morrow morning. The matter has been taken up by bowlers in different parts of New Zealand and in Auckland and elsewhere it lias been suggested that bowlers should raise money for a convalescent home at Rotorua. This idea of doing something to assist our boys has been discussed by Taranaki bowlers during the last j few days, and it is gathered that, while they are willing to take some step towards helping soldiers, the Rotorua scheme does not meet with general approval. One New Plymouth bowler yesterday drew a reporter's attention to a circular which had been issued by the secretary of the Auckland Bowling' Club, and said he and others were in favor of the proposal set out in the circular. The circular is as follows: —"Your committee has fully discussed the scheme of the Auckland Centre of the Dominion Bowling Association to form a bowlers' fund for the purpose of assisting the Covernment to equip a convalescent home at Rotorua for incapacitated soldiers. The committee fully realises our responsibility and the necessity for assisting to the fullest extent to supply the wants and relieve the necessities of our wounded heroes and their dependents, but it is of the opinion that tho best method of doing this would be to devote the club's contribution to a fund which will provide comforts and relief beyond that for which the Government has made provision." To-morrow the delegates from tho Taranaki clubs will have an opportunity of fully discussing the matter.
