NEW SEASON'S BUTTER.
FIRST TARANAKI SHIPMENT. The first shipment of the new season's butter from Taranaki will be despatched from New Plymouth by the Corinna on October 4 and will be transhipped at Wellington to the New Zealand Shipping Company's steamer Rimutaka, which leaves Wellington for London on October 7. The consignment from Taranaki is expected to consist of 14,000 boxes of butter and 4000 crates of cheese. There are at present in store at the Freezing Works at Moturoa 5300 boxes of butter and 400 crates of cheese. The 'first shipment overseas of the netr season's 'butter was made from Auckland last week, when the Niagara took 650 boxes of butter. The smollness of this sliipment is due to the fact that the Canadian market is quiet, as local supplies are at present sufficient. New Zealand "butter is now so favorably known in the Vancouver market that there is always a certain demand | for it, although it may be selling in advance of the locally-manufactured article. The consignments by the Niagara have been sold at prices equivalent to Is i'/jd per lb upwards, f.o.b. Auckland, so that the shipment is worth about .£2150. The first shipment to London will toe made by the Otftki, which will commence loading within a wesk. A3 was the ease last season, t'he London market will absorb the bulk. of the season's output. On the eve of the resumption of shipments the prospects sire regarded as most favorable. Never before has the English market shewn such good promise, ' remarked a butter merchant. His information is confirmed by the latest reports from the High Commissioner which states that the market ia firm and prices very high.
