Brisbane, Sept. 11. Sanction has been given to the police to form a union. MT. LYELL STRIKE ENDED. Melbourne, Sept. 11. As the result of a mass meeting at Mt. Lyell the men decided to accept the company's terms and are resuming work immediately. ! NEW SOUTH WALES CRIMINALS. Sydney, Sept. 11. The annual report of the Prisons Department for 1914 shows a decrease of 221 prison admissions. Regarding the proposal to close the Melbourne Oao'l, it declares that, though technical instruction has unquestionably a much more social effect than the punishment of crime, it seems unwise materially to reduce the gaol accommodation. MOUNT LYELL RETURNS. Melbourne, Sept. 11. The Mount Lyell returns from August 5 to September 1, inclusive, show that 27,198 tons of ore were treated, yielding GO2 tons of copper, 28,824 ounces of silver, and 722 ounces of gold.
