The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile, Stratford Branch, report as follows: On Tuesday, August 31, we held our weekly sale of springing heifers and cows. We bad a fair entry of 56 bead, of which we placed 39 head, included in which were a nice line of pedigree Ayrshire heifers. Cattle of good quality and close to profit found buyers at good prices, but small-grown, low-conditioned and backward sorts are neglected. Ayrshire cows £6 15s to £7, Ayrshire heifers, nice and a small line of six of the same breed made '£s. Good heifers £7 17s fid to £B, later r £7 to £7 sa. Our next springing heifer sale will be held on Tuesday, 14th inst. On Tuesday, September 7, we held our usual 'fortnightly stock, dairy, and pig sales in our Stratford yards. Wo had a good entry of 704 store cattle, 26 sheep, 77 dairy heifers and cows, and 18 pigs, and effected a good clearance to a large attendance of the public at the following prices:—Good store'cows were in better demand, and made from £0 2s to £7 17s, medium sorts £5 to £O, aged and poor £2 18s for smalt to £4 17s for larger grown; fat cows from £8 to £8 19s, prime fat cows £lO 13s to £l2 7s fid, empty heifers small £4 to £5 10s for moro bulky sorts, yearling heifers good lines from £2 5s to £2 15s, medium quality 37s to 435, poor and small 295, 18-month heifers, more in demand from 58s to 73s for good Jines, 18-month steers £3 8s 6d to £3 18s 6d, yearling steers small 50s, 2-year"steers 98s, 3J-ycar steers good lino £9 2s 6d, bulls small 05s, wellgrown £7 5s to £7 Bs, weaner pigs 18s to 19s. In our dairy yards we had a fair sale, but the quality was not so good as usual, small teatcrs predominating. Good heifers calved up to £9, well grown good sorts £7 10s to '£B 10s, late calving £7 to '£7 2s Cd, medium quality £6 5s to £0 17s Cd, 2-year-olds £5 10s to £G 10s showing quality. Since wo last reported we have placed a good deal of stock privately as follows:—Yearling heifers 32s 6(1 to 40s, empty heifers 18 months 60s, 2-year steers 90s to 100s, yearling steers 61s, store cows small 70s to 90s, medium 955, fair £5 10s, good £5 17s 6d, dairy cows medium £7 to '£B, good line £l2 10s, 3-year-old bullocks' good £9 los and £8 10s, hoggets medium 15s to 18s, fair 20s to 20s Cd, good 21s to 225, ewes and lambs fair 25s 3d, poor 17s to 18s Cd, dogs 20s to 21s.
