GOLF.
TOURNAMENT AT, WAIWAKAIHO. A tournament for My golders was held on the New Plymouth Club's liffika at Waiwaikaiho yesterday. There were good entries for the various events, and the fimd {to erect a hospital in memory of Miss f'raser, the champion of Scotland, who died in Serbia), will benefit 'by £lO. ffihe entrance fees totalled £6, and donations of £3 from Dr. Walker and £1 from Mrs. Walker were received. The prizes were donated by Mrs. Glenn, Mrs. C. H. Weston, Mrs. Walker, Miss A. Read, Miss Brewster, Mrs Crapper, and Mr. E. F. Bland ell. The committee were assisted in the afternoon tea by Mrs. Kebbell, Mrs Hurstiiouse and Miss Roy; while Mr. Stainton took charge of the approaching competion. Results aie as follows: BOGEY MATCH. The best scores returned by the seniors were:— Mrs, C. H. Weston (N.P.), 3 down. Mrs. McLean (Hawera), 4 down. Mrs. Buxton (Witiora), 4 down. The best scores returned by the juniors were:— Miss A. Hawke (Witiora), 2 down. Miss K. Free (N.P.), 2 down. Miss H. Lewis (Witiora), 3 down. Miss E. Johnston (Witiora), 4 down. DRIVING COMPETITION. The driving competition for seniors was won by Mrs. Buxton with 160 yards, Mrs McLean was second with 159 yard*/ and Mrs. C. H. Weston third, with 160 > yards. The driving competition for juniors resulted:—Mrs. Walker, 150 yards; Miss A. Hawke, 146 yards; Miss E. Putt, 144 yards. FLAG MEDAL MATCH. A flag modal match was played over 14 holes. In the senior competition, Mrs. McLean, wih 76 strokes, planted her flag in the eighteenth hole; Miss E. Johnston and Mrs. McQuade were both three feet away from the 18th hole; and Mrs. Abraham (Stratford), was ■within a short approach of the green. Close behind wer£ Mrs. C. H. Weston, Miss Reed, Mrs. Robinson and Mrs. Buxton in that order.
In the junior competition, Miss K. Bennett, with 105 strokes, holed out at the 18th hole on her second round; Miss C. Penn a few yards further back. Mrs. Flower and Mrs. Walker were both close to the lißth green. APPROACHING. In the approaching competiiton, Mrs. Mci Lean, Mrs. Bridge and Miss Rundle tied, and Miss Rundle won the play-off. PUTTING. Continuous putting was held throughout the day. The best cards handed in were Miss Rundle 16, Mrs Denniston 17, Mrs Penn 17. TARAHUA v. WITIORA. A match was played on the Witiora links between teams representing the above clubs, and resulted in a win for Witiora. The following were the scores. Tarahua players being mentioned first:— Chong beat Hassell, 5 up and 4. P. Gray beat Haslam, 4 up and 3. G. Gray beat Broome, 3 up and 2. Cannell beat Coxhead, 3 up. N. Perry and Beal, all square. Lorey lost to Medley, S down and C. C. Bond lost to H. Smith, 5 down and 3. Cropley lost to E. Gilmour, 7 down and 6. Renner lost to Stocker, 8 down and 7. E. Carter lost to Hawke, 6 down and 5. A team from Witiora will journey to Waitara on Saturday to play a match against the local club.
