AN ALLEGED VICTORY. REJOICINGS IN CONSTANTINOPLE. London, Sept. 8. Reuter's Sofia correspondent reports 'that the recent fighting at Anafarta is described in Constantinople as a Turkish victory, and the city is beflagged. The majority of the citizens are, however, sceptical, believing a reverse lias occurred. They are actually longing for the Allies' entry into Constantinople. Proibably another Anglo-French success will be the signal for an uprising in Constantinople against the Gorernment.
ANOTHER TURKISH REPORT. Received Sept. 9, 9.5 pan. Amsterdam, Sept. 9. A Turkish communique says: On the •night of August VJtli our reconnoitring troops in the direction of Messtuntig[e and Anzac penetrated the enemy's 'trenches, capturing two machine-guns. .Enemy tor.pedoers at Seddul Bahr bombarded our right and left wings without important damage. Our batteries in the Straits on August 7th silenced the enemy's 'batteries, whicli were bombarding our left wing.
PROGRESS FROM SUVLA. HEAVY FIGHTING REPORTED, Athens, Sept. 8. The navy and army have had heavy fighting at Gallipoli, and made further progress near Suvla Bay. OPERATIONS ON GALLIPOLI. TURKS CLAIM SUCCESSES. Received Sept. 9, 7.35 p.m. Amsterdam, Sept. 9. A Turkish communique says: Our artillery on Monday dispersed a strong enemy force at Anafarta, near Kemiklilman. The enemy continues an unsuccessful shelling of Seddul Bahr. Tlie Anatolian batteries on Sunday successfully shelled an enemy artillery camp and workshops near Seddul Bahr. The enemy replied without result. The same batteries scored an important succesß on Monday in shelling infantry positions.
PRISONERS SURPRISED. DID NOT KNOW WIEIR ENEMIES. Times and Sydney Sun Services. Received Sept. 9, 4.55 p.m. London, Sept. 8. Turkish prisoners at Alexandria are barefooted and tattered. They cursed the war, and alleged that they only learned that they were fighting against Lho French and English a few days ago. They were stupefied to hear it, because England had always protected Turkey. "MASSACRE OF ARMENIANS. Rome, September 8. • Ar..ifvir.r .refugees state that seventy umenians, including several utieii, have been massacred.
