THE EMPIRE THEATRE. The London Film Company's big stir drama, "1914," or "Scotland for King and Country," will lead the new programme at the Empire Theatre to-night. The stirring and gallant deeds of the brave Scotchmen in this world's war has opened up unlimited possibilities to the picture producers, and this wellknown firm, recognising that fact, engaged "Rita," the eminent popular novelist, to write the scenario of a* exciting and thrilling Scottish feaure. "1914" is the love story of a London Scottish Rifle hero. During the action the spectators are transported from the highlands of Scotland to the very heart of the fighting in Flanders. Special attention has been ipaid to actual trench warfare, and the whole picture has been handled with attention to detail. Sentiment plays a very big part in this star feature, and the acting, in the hands of the famous actress, Miss Jane Gail, and other supporting artists, leaves nothing to be desired. A Keystone, "That Springtime Feeling," featuring Charles Murray, is exceedingly funny. Other subjects include the latest number of the Gaumont Graphic, English rural scenes, etc. "THE PIRATE'S REVENGE." A fine set of pictures was screened at the Theatre Royal last night, the star item being "The Pirate's Revenge." This splendid film deals with the life of smugglers, and is full of incident. A love story runs through the piece. Burton is betrothed to Juanita, and Iladcliffe is jealous of him. The latter kidnaps Juanita and carries her off to his schooner. A rescue is effected by Burton, and a satisfactory ending ensues. Besides this very interesting film there is a splendid set of pictures of old buildings of England, and a magnificent scenic of scenes in the Tyrol. A comedy, "Elopement by Waterplane," is beautifully coloured, and evoked considerable laughter. Dramas and comedies, make up a programme that should attract a large house to-night.
