BOXING.
A MIDDLE-WEIGHT FIASCO. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Hamilton, Sept. 4. Correspondence relating to the Mitchell v. Murphy fight for the middle-weight ohampionship, which the referee declared no contest on the grounds that the men were not trying, was read at a meeting of the Waikato Boxing Association, and statements by both contestants were put in. Murphy said he tried throughout, and Mitchell stated that he was approached by P. Hand, the president, and W. Jordan, a member of the executive, asking him to prolong the fight. He could have knocked Murphy out at any time he wished. Messrs Hand and Jordan said they did remark in a jocular manner, "Give the public a show for their money," Both men were disqualified for six months' - _
