The Government permits landing at Avonmouth and Cardiff, for slaughter there, of animals from South Africa, United States, Australia, New Zealand, Abyssinia, Madagascar, Nigeria, Senegal, Cuba, and Honduras, till three months after the end of the war. At my four-weekly Rale I catalogued 38 bales and 97 sacks of wool, 2330 sheepskins, 7 casks and 51 tins tallow, 900 hides, and 2211 calfskins to an average j.attendance of buyers. Owing to adverse reports from London, and in sympathy with other sales in the dominion, prices for all kinds of produce declined in value. Crutcliings declined 3d, sheepskins Id to ljd, cowhides ljd to ljd. Ox hides were in keen demand, particularly heavy weights, and showed little or 110 change. Calfskins came forward in large numbers, advancing id to Jd per lb in values. Wool: Fleece in bales 12Jd, crutchings medium IOJd to ll|d, seedy and inferior 7?d to 10|, pieces 7d; in saoks fleece 8d to 11 Jd, cmtching3 lOd to 10} d, seedy 8d to BJd, pieces SJ(I to G|d, dead 7Jd to 11J, "black Bd, locks and badly seedy Id to 4d. At Opunake on Saturday, 21st, we held a special horse sale. More than the advertised number came forward, and competition for young sound horses was keen, and we report a successful sale. The unbroken heavy draughts aohl ati from £25 to £34, medium draughts £lB to £25, lighter sorts £S to £ls, broken draught horses £2O to j £33, medium draughts £ls to £25, Jiglrt harness -horses £lO to £lB, hacks [-£& to £ls, Shetland ponies to £fi 10j' weeds '£l and upwards.
On Monday, the 23r<l mat., at oxlt fortnightly Opunake sale, there was at extra large yarding of stock of all descriptions, and pnieea wero similar to thiosc of tote sales. Fat cows sold from £l2 to £l3 for extra prime, light weight £8 10s to £9 16a, frcsh-coudi-tiionod cows £7 to £7 17s (k|, forward cows £G to £G 17s, store cows £4 15s to £5 15s, boners £3 10s to £4 10s. The three-year steers, in forward condition, realised £lO ss, other steers £S 9a fid, heifers 33s to £2 14s, otheivs (mixed .sexes) 20b to 30s. Dairy eows and heifers sold at late rates. Cows sold at from £6 to £S lfls, heifers £4 to £8 IBs, store pigs 23s to 30s, weaners 13« 6d to 16s. At Manaia yards on Tuesday tost we held our usual fortnightly sale. There was a full yarding and a good attendance of buyers, and ruling prices were realised. Light fat cows sold at from £8 to £8 15s, fresh-conditioned cowe £<s 10s to £7 ss, forward cows £5 ig a to £C 17g (Id, store cows £4 4s to £5 6s, yearling heifers 353 to 4Kb, steers £2 6a to £2 15s, weaners (mixed sexes) '2oa to 335. At Anroa yards on Friday we held our usual monthly sale. There was an extra large yarddng of stock. Mcea were firm and almost the whole yarding was sold.
