Mr. R. H. Nolan expects to leave Hawera next week on his return to England, going by way of Java and the East generally. Mr. Alfred McGonagle, of New Plymouth, has received advice that his son, Private Cyril McGonagle, disembarked at Malta from hospital ship on August 12, slightly sick. Air. A, L. Crutchett, who has been acting as manager of the Union Bank at New Plymouth, left for Auckland last evening. Mr. O. Coghill, who has been on holiday, has resumed his duties. Messrs lan P. Grant and K. O. Curtis, of Inglcwood, have received advice that they have been accepted as non-commis-sioned officers, and leave for Trcntham on September 0. Mr. Copeland, biitter-niaker at the New Zealand Dairy Association's central factory, Ngaruawahia, has been appointed butter-maker for thc North Taranaki Dairy Company, and Mr. While, of Feilding, has been appointed to thc casein department. There was a full attendance of members of (he Christchurch Stock Exchange recently, when the opportunity was taken to present the chairman, Mr. F. F. Graham, with a silver clock, suitably engraved, to mark the occasion of his approaching marriage. Sergeant W. P. Okey and Private X. C. Harding, who left New Plymouth with the main body of the Expeditionary Force, are on board the Tahiti, having been invalided home. The Tahiti is expected to reach Wellington about September 10.

At the Town Hall, Manaia, on Thursday last a farewell social was tendered to' Mr. and Mrs. E. H. Stevenson, who have resided at Mxnaia for 27 years. The chairman of the Town Board, Mr. J. J. Meldon, presided, and, on behalf of the residents, presented Mr. Stevenson with a handsome dressing case, Mrs. Stevenson with a gold brooch set with pearls, and the Misses Grey with a silver manicure set each.
