SHIPPING LAWS.

AMENDMENT ASKED FOB. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. A deputation representing the New Zealand Executive Council ol' the Federated Seamen's Union of Australasia, waited upon Hon. R. MeNab to-day to urge important amendments in the shipping laws, including an amendment of the constitution enabling- Parliament to have power to enact its own shipping legislation without consulting the Imperial authorities; also the repeal of section 57 of the Shipping Act Amendment Act, which empowers the Minister to repeal the Act. The Minister replied that, speaking on the points as a whole, he considered them very reasonable and was in favor of many of them. He did not know whether the Government intended to bring down any legislation beyond that pertaining to the war, but if so, he believed he would he aible to carry out some of the proposals by legislation this session.
