GREECE READY. VENIZELOS TAKES OFFICE, g London, August 22. M. Venizelos has accepted the Premiership. There is rejoicing at Athens. Athens, August 22. There is a perfect understanding between the King and M. Venizelos, the former. congratulating the Premier. Cabinet will be sworn in on Monday. Paris, August 22. The Petit Parisien, in an officially inspired note, declares that Serbia seems disposed at whatever cost to reply favorably to the demands made upon her by the Allies.
ROUMANIA, GERMANY -SEEKING MORE TROUBLE AN ULTIMATUM EXPECTED. Received August 23, 5.5 p.m. Sofia, August 22. Private advices from Bucharest state that it is feared Germany is about to address an ultimatum to Roumania on the question of the transit of munitions. Many railway trucks of war material are held up at the frontier. Roumanian troops are reported to be concentrating at Jassy, and they also occupy the petroleum districts. THE ALLLIES' PROGRAMME. WHAT IT MEANS. A MORE HOPEFUL TONE. Received August 23, .11.30 p.m. London, August 23. The Times' correspondent at Bukarest says that the official press is reserved as to tlie situation, clearly understanding that the Allies' programme is decisive, and unless accepted another Bal'kiui war will be imminent. Roumania's influence will probably, -be exerted to induce the neighboring states to acquiesce in the proposals. Tlie principal interest in the situation is centred at Nish. Inspired ministerial press articles are published indicating the Serbian Government's readiness to comply with the desire of the Allies. The whole of their benevolent intentions towards the Balkan States are emphasised, and hitherto un'compromising military coteries are now disposed to agree to the Allies' suggestions. It is inconceivable that the Greek resistance to the Allies' wishes will be prolonged, for such a policy would result in the complete isolation of the Greeks, who cannot expect any material assistance from Aust-ro-Germany.
