PEACE TALK.

ALLIES' ESPRIT DE CORPS. FRENCH ARMY WILL NOT HEAR OF PEACE. (Times and Sydney Sun Services.) Received August 20, 7.40 p.m. London, August 19. The Amsterdam Telegraaf publishes an interview with its ex-director, who visited England and France. He says he had llot spoken to a single person who thought that the war would end otherwise than in a complete victory for the Allies. He was full of admiration for what England had accomplished in the la9t half-year, the whole place resembling an extensive military camp. The people's enthusiasm in the war was striking., He had visited the front, and says there is a splendid understanding among the Anglo-French soldiers. The spirit of the French troops is such that.if the Government dared to suggest peace they would be expelled by the bayonet. The people of Paris and the Government are equally determined.

Regout, the Dutch Minister, to tlie Vatican, said he hoped the appointment of a representative in Rome, after an interval of fifteen years, would be an important factor in the near future in connection with .the pacification of Europe.
