ABOUT PARLIAMENT.

BACK TO WORK. lty Wire. —Special to Daily News. Wellington, August IS. Parliament will resume work to-mor-row 'evening, and though 'the Order Paper promises nothing very exciting, a good deal of curiosity is Using evinced aa to the manner in which the new Ministers and their friends left in Opposition will comport themselves. 31r. Wilford has marked oil' the seat on the front Opposition benches, previously occupied by Sir Joseph Ward, and he will have at his side Mr. Poland, while Mr. Witty will take Mr. Myers' old place, with Mr. Ell on his right. These changes need not be taken to indicate any purpose, on the part of the gentlemen who have moved up into the front rank, as they, all have announced their determination to observe the spirit of the compact between the partic3, but it is pretty certain tha.l; the rank and file on both sid;s will exercise their full right of legitimate criticism.

THE NEW CONDITIONS. The price the National Cabinet will have to pay for security against being turned oil' the Treasury benches will Inpatient submission to soms very plain speaking. Then non-party men, vide Mr. James Craigie and Mr, Wilkinson, who were given to speaking their minds under the old conditions, will fee) much freer with both party leaders sitting on one side of the House, and prepared to share their trouble*. That this will make for some sound legislation ani good Government the majority of the members admit.

THE LABOR PARTY. Very little has been heard of the intentions of the Labor group during the adjournment, but there is a growing impression that Mr. Hindmarsh and im colleagues with, perhaps, the pingle exception of Mr. MeCombSj will accept the new arrangements with a friendly disposition towards their ok! allies of the Liberal Party. Their attitmhf will depend, to a great extent,',upon .the character of the taxation .proposals, and noun the l facilities the Government gives for the discussion of progressive measures, but if the Liberal Ministers are strong enough to maintain the general principles of their party, there will be no serious trouble from the gentlemen who occupy the back benches.
