A MERRY CHASE.
PRISON KSCAPIiIi RE-CAPTURED. IJTelegraph.—Press Association. Wanganui, Last Night. An habitual criminal, John Henry Heath, who escaped from Rotoairo prison camp on August 17th, was recaptured to-day iby Constables WUfeon and Doyle, under exicting circumstances. In consequence of information received that a man resembling the prisoner had b(4n seen at Atailce, 30 miles from Wanganui, the two policemen procure! a motor eai" and went towards tlwt. district,. At a fiend on a road, 18 miles from Wanganiii," 'the policemen met the prisoner oil horseback. He immediately spurred the ho'rse, . and dashed past, at full gallop. After ticlay in turning the' 1 car,, tiie police,'gave chase. The fugitive' had a 'big Itart, but after a race for three miles'the motor car overhauled 'him. The escapee then threw himself from the horse, and dashed into the bush, where the constables chased and caught him. Prisoner was wearing a riding suit, which it was ascertained Iw had stolen from a settler's house at Karioi.
