BOROUGH COUNCIL.

WORKS COMMITTEE. The Works Committee of the New Plymouth Borough Council met on Monday evening, the following business being transacted: — His Worship the Mayor welcomed Mr. E. 0. Clayton, the new borough engineer, who suitably replied; the necessary steps will be taken to declare the central portion of Nob's Line, as set out on the plan submitted by the borough engineer, to be a reserve tree planting, and in the meantime a temporary light be installed if necessai?; the borough engineer was authorised to accede to the application of Messrs Kibby and others for the use of the traction engine for the removal of the cabbage tree from Mr.. Hatrick's property to Nob's Line, and t!i« chairman was appointed to confer with the applicants; a vote of thanks was accorded to Messrs Kibby and Jackson and other Fitzroy residents for their services in removing the cabbage trees from the car-shed site to Nob's Line; Mr. Skitrop was authorised to arra-nge for Messrs Sladden and IPalmcr to assess the damage done to borough streets by the contractors for the new hospital; the borough, engineer was authorised to apply 2cwt. of basic slag per acre to the cemetery paddock; ■the arrangement made by the executive committee for the sale of five tons of cement to the East End Reserve Committee was confirmed; the plans of the proposed protective works to the Waiwakaiho bridge were referred to the borough engineer to report upon; consideration of the borough engineer's report re Fitzroy road was deferred pending receipt of a report as to the cost of tl}e work proposed; the inspector was instructed to enforce the by-laws in regard to carting over footways; the Gas Company were notified to inform the council before breaking up any street in the borough; the action of the chairman in arranging for the disposal of the spoil from the cutting down of Devon road, Fitzroy, was confirmed; consideration of the question of the control of the work of aoltarring the tram route was deferred until the next meeting, and the engineer was instructed to submit a report upon the whole question.
