"LIL O' LONDON." Tile Empire Theatre, has as the topliner this evening a production of metropolitan life hy the well-known London Film Co. The picture is saM to be well up to tile usual excellent style of the company, and has the additional merit, in these days of Empire preference, of being "all British." The leading role is sustained by Miss Edna Fiugralh, a clever little actress, who is fast coming to the front. Lil n' London is a quaint character taken from real life, and part of her history woven into a drama, which for characterisation anil realism, it is said, has seldom been equalled. Lil, owing to the tenement which she has known as home being burnt down, while her father is being pursued by the police, finds herself, with a tiny tot of a sister, homeless and starving. A young society chap, taken hy the motherly way that she looks after the tiny ehild, takes her ti> his flat, and this leads to many complications, some of which are comic, sonie tragic. The end of the plav is said to be gripping in its intensity. Lil's father burglarise" the house, and Lil struggles wlt.li him. Neither recognises eneli 'other, till Lil falls stabbed. The lights ;are turned up. Then the father recognises his daughter. The end is one that •will rank as an artistic triumph. "fTogan's Aristocrat Dream" is a two-red feature of a very novel and ..highly mirthful character, abounding in situations calculated to amuse the audience. ".Picturesque California" is a scenic study, anil other items include "The Phantom Thief." the prize drama for w.b cii the Daily Mirror gave a thousand dollar,, for the most, suitable ending, and the newest War Gazette.
