b Ci-IAJJPIONisHIP Fl-NAL. WON BY HAWERA. Hawera is the champion senior team in Taranaki this year, having defeated Tukapa in the final, played on the Stratford Show Grounds, yesterday afternoon. Ideal weather prevailed, and the match wa.s witnessed by a large crowd. The scoring in the match was fl points by Hawera against 3 by Tukapa, and, aa the result indicates, the contest was a fairly even one, being keenly contested throughout. The match could not be described ua a brilliant exhibition of football.

Hawera set the ball in motion, and the opening stages saw Tukapa hold Hawera within Hawera's twenty-five. From a penalty, Loveridge had a shot at goal, but the ball fell short, and the next few minutes saw Hawera still hard pressed. Presently, the Hawera forwaiis hroke away, and rushed Tukapa, back on the line, two forces following in quick succession. Play then worked hack to raidfield, where Ward, Broughton and J. Skipper led an attack into Hawera territory. Here Tukapa was awarded' a penalty, but a good kick by Loveridge failed to find the mark. P!ay now moved up and down field for a while, until presently a dull period was broken by Ryder, who broke away alone, and made a fine run right down to Hawera's line, where his progress was cut short hy Tau (the Hawera full back), who grassed him splendidly. The Hawera forwards gathered round, and soon worked play up field, where George dropped the ball neatly over the 'bar, but a goal was not allowed, as the hall had touched a Tukapa player in its flight. Hawera now maintain the pressure, and in a few minutes Barry crossed Tukapa's line and scored. Colman failed to convert. Hawera ...,,- 3 Tukapa 0

On resuming, Tukapa put a lot of vim into the work, and a strong attack carried play into Hawera's land. Hawera was equal to the occasion, and retaliated with renewed vitality, quickly putting a new complexion on the game. A loose rush by Hawera ended in West scoring, but Column failed to convert. Hawera S Tukapa 0

The spectators hardly had time to realise that the ball was again in play before they saw Hawera forcing Tukapa bark again, and in a couple of minutes Whittington registered the third try. Colnian again failed to goal, and half-time was called with the score: Hawera 9 Tukapa 0 The opening stages of the second spell were characterised by a brisk attack by Tukapa, but the effort was short lived, for in a few minutes the Hawera forwards tool; play into Tukapa's half. Here C'ohnan Tailed to make use of a penalty shot at goal, and a little later George proved unequal to a successful effort on two occasions. Hawera kept up the pressure, and, after a keen tussle outside Tukapa's line. Jack Robinson ncairly got across. Then play was worked down field, and for a while Tukapa assumed the offensive. At this stage Colman received an injury to his jaw, and had to leave the ficM." For a somewhat lengthy period, the play was of a poor standard, the scene of activity frequently changing without definite advantage to either side. A few minutes before time was called, and when Tukapa was stubbornly attacking Hawera's line, Perry got over from a scrambling rush. Loveridge failed to convert, and shortly after the game ended: Hawera 9 Tukapa 3 ill-. W. RocJi referred. JUNIOR FOOTBALL.
