A DURHAM ROAD TROUBLE.
To the Editor. Sir, —May I crave a little space in your columns to reply to some remarks by your Durham Road correspondent in Monday's issue of the Daily News. Tn a round-about way he charges me with cutting down some trees on vVhat he calls "a paper road." He says, inter alia: "Some years agjj a settler adjacent to such a road planted a double row of trees wifth the full approval of the then neighbor." He does not say owner, This neighbor was simply a leaser, on.' of the kind who i\vc here today and gone to-morro.v. Consequently it did •not trouble him iviiciln-r thric was a double row, a single row, or no row at all. Further, he does not say they were pinis insignia trees, and planted on the neighbor's fence line, while leaving his own line clear. In this way lie was to get the benefit of the. shelter, while the other fellow got the shadow. He also says the trees are 10 or i2 f.>et high and a benefit to both parties, That is a matter of opinion, and there is many a fanner •'whipping the cat" to-day for having planted those trees in the wrong place years ago. .The remark that the Moa Road Board, as the control, ling local body, simply cant' help but look on, is ridiculous, as present writer is only following the adv.ee of several momibei'3 of the Board, who, on being spoken to on the matter, simply sank •'Cut the free.-; down if they are in tho road." The Hoard is not going to look for trouble. Your correspondent is evidently a bad loser.—l am, etc. SETTLER No. 3. Durham Road. August 4. 1915.
