WAR RELIEF FUNDS. (From Our Own Correspondent.)" Hft-wera, Yesterday. A mooting of delegates from the District Patriotic Committees of .South Tara. naki was lield in the Council Chambers this afternoon. It hud been convened by }lr. E. Dixon (chairman of the Hawera Committee), a a*, there Were present:— Messrs. E. Dixon (chairman), the Rev. "R. 13. Lynsley (Kaponga). Q. Horner (Patea) ,'A. Pease (Mangatoki), E. Sage (Hawcr,i Chamber of Commerce), 13. Fearon (Opunake), Murdock (Hawera County), R. W. liVXeill (Auroa), W. Dive (Eltham) and R. Dunn (Farmers' Union), The chairman, in. his opening remarks, reported on the business transacted by tli« executive body at the recent conference in Wellington, and he said that he took it for granted that those present were in favor of the national scheme, and their first duty was to affirm that scheme. This was done on the motion of Messrs Dive, and Homer. The matter of a Taranaki executive or otherwise was then discussed, and 'Mr. Dunn favored one executive for the whole of Taranaki. Mr. Pease suggest- ! Ed a committee should be appointed in each county, and one representative from cacli to constitute the executive.
Upon the motion of Messrs. Homer and McNeill, it was resolved that it be a recommendation to the New Zealand Executive that the Taranaki Province be constituted a branch of the national scheme. The fixing of sub-districts offered many difficulties, and Mr. Dive moved, and Mr. Pease seconded: That the executive of the Taranaki Province should comprise a delegate from each county district to deal with its affairs, and this motion was unanimously carried. The following resolution, proposed by Fr. Murdoch and seconded by Mr. Dunn, was also carried: That the, Mayors of Stratford and Xew rlvmoutli be writfen to regarding the result of this meeting, and asked to communicate to the various places in North Taranaki their opinion as to co-operation in the suggested scheme. The matter of a next meeting was left with Mr. Dixon, of Hawera, to arrange with the Mayor of Xew Plymouth, such meeting to lie held at .Stratford. Mr. Dunn moved that if lie a recommendation that all the fund? fn Taranaki lie paid into one central fund. Mr. KimboU seconded this, and it was earned. GENERAL. Mr. Oeorgo McM.lm.lra, of the secretarial staff of the General Post Office, was in town to-day on departmental business. Mrs. Kelly, of the Dominion Hotel, received a wire to-day, stating that her son, Tom. was sick at the camp, and she and her daughter left by the mail train for Wellington this morning.
