(i'roni Our Own Correspondent.) Stratford, Thursday. Last evening, as Mr. R. Watkin, of Huiroa, with two friends, were riding home from Stratford, a motor-ear ran into the party, with the result that the horse 'Mr. Watkin was riding was struck by the car, and had its leg practically severed at She shin, and the horse had to he destroyed. Luckily, Mr. Watkins got eff without a scratch. The Cardiff i~airy Company starts operations for the .season this week. The present daily supply of milk is above that of last year, and, seeing tile season was started a week earlier, this is very satisfactory. irhe"re?ent heavy rain brought down a large slip, which buried the Cardiff Company'..; water-race, from which the factory was supplied. They arc at now at work clearing same, hut it will be quite a week 'before the work is completed. The Stratford-Whangamomona line is still closed for traffic from Pohokura eastwards. The (ballast train is expected to get through to-morrow, and settlers are agitating for supplies to be ,sent in hy that train. 'Representations to this effect are heing made to the Railway Department. The Cardiff Rifle Club is tendering a send off to-morrow ('Friday) night to the boys, who arc leaving this district to join the reinforcements.
