(From 0«r Own Correspondent.) iStraUord, Yesterday. The rainfall for the month of July in Straifuvl was sixteen inches. The most that fell in one day was on July 20, when 4 0-10iu. fell. At last night's meeting of the School Committee, Mr. Skoglund (chairman) was appointed to proceed to Wellington to interview the Minister for Education, urging t.he claims of a separate High School for .Stratford, Mr. K. Masters has been appointed to act on behalf of the Taranaki Education Board in the same maLter.
Mr. V. J. McDonald, manager of the Stratford Dairy Company, has offered the School Committee to devote two hours per month in teaching the dairying classes in connection with the Technical .SV-hool. J Jr. Mfc'l>onald's offer was accepted with thanks. To-morrow (Thursday) the Stratford ,Fir-e Brigade is again staging the pantomime Cinderella in the Town Tlall, llalf of the proceeds will be devoted to the Sick and Wounded Fund. It is to be hoped that the public will show its appreciation of the brigade's efforts by giving it a bumper house. This (Wednesday) afternoon his Wbr. ship the Mayor addressed the. senior scholars at the school on the anniversary of the outbreak of war. He gave a fine and stirring patriotic speech, which was listened to attentively by the scholars. The Fife Band played the National Anthem, and the pupils saluted the flag. A good mmi'bcr of the general public attended. It was thought nt first that the next draft, of reinforcements would be allowed to leave Stratford without any puWic recognition of the sacrifices being made for the Empire. However, seeing 110 organisation was prepared to take the matter up, the members of the Egmont Club have stepped into the breach, and have decided to give the boys a farewell social in the club's room's on Thursday, August 12. His Worship the Mayor and councillors of the borough, and the chairmen and members of local bodies arc being invited to the function. The Scottish Society has raised over ,CS3-f towards the Wounded Soldiers' Fund. Further amounts are to come in, and it is expected that over £llOO will he raised through the society's efforts,
