Melbourne, August 3. The wool sales closed strong, the good classes showing an advance up to 10 per cent, on recent rates. There was active I demand on Japanese, Italian and French account. An important comparative return showing the quantities and values of the exports from the dominion for the nine months, ended May 31. 1014, and May 31, 1013, was laid on the table of the Tlouse of Representatives this afternoon by the Hon. W. IT. ITcrrics, Minister for Customs. The figures are as follow, those in parentheses being for the 1015 period:— Butter: 3S3,B22civt, £2.135,G0!) (300,i2">cnvt, £2,189,014), increase of £03,215. Jhe net increase in the total value of the exports \va.s £2,333.707. The statistics were supplied to the .Minister by the Comptroller of Customs, on the motion of Mr. O. W. Russell, who asked that the return include all commodities raised in value bv the war and, more particularly, wool, hides, meat and butier. The figures are based on those shown ill the Customs returns, giving llie value of the commodities at the 'nine of exportation from Xeiv Zealand, as verified by the local merchants. The increases in the value of frozen beef and wool exported during the war arc particularly striking.
