DISTRICT NEWS.
BELL JSLOCK. (From Our Own Correspondent.) A very successful and enjoyable social was held in the hall on Tuesday evening last in aid of the funds for the wounded soldiers. There was a very representative attendance from our own and surrounding districts, as well as from New Plymouth. Songs were contributed by Miss Leilch and Mr. Haslam, each performer being encored, and Miss Bishop gave, a recitation. At an. interval between the dances a '• British Bull Hog." which had been commandeered for the occasion, realised ,C2 ,">s towards Hie fundo. This amount and several small donations brought the total to .€l3 1.55. Mr. Connett thanked those who had assisted to mahe the function such a success, especially the children who had sold tickets and the performers wlio had helped to entertain the audience. In connection with the patriotic funds, the ladiesi of the district are holding weekly sewing meeting's in the hall to make up new and old clothing for the poor in Britain and Belgium. This has been taken up heartily by the ladies, and good attendances are reported. Tinladies, in turn, provide afternoon tea, and a charge of (id each is made, the proceeds being used t 0 provide material for future work.
