ARBITRATION COURT.
'SIXTIXC IX !XEW PLYMOUTH. The Arbitration Court sat in Xew Plymouth yesterday to hear the Taranaki painters' and decorators' dispute. His Honor Mr. Justice Stringer presided, and the assessors were 'Messrs K. F. Dnthie (for the, employers) and .1. A. McCnllongh (for the employees). Mr. ]•'. ('. J. Bcllringcr represented tfie employers in Taranaki and Mr. Yoght the union of employees. Mr. iliellringer said he was surprised to hear of the sitting of the Court, as he thought everything in this matter had been settled six months ago. Mr. Yight said the only clause for the Court to consider w<is that of the wa£e for wider-rate workers. When the last award was made it was provided that at" the end of six months these workers should get Is 4 l / 2 d per hour, thus bringing the men into line with similar workers iii oilier t'mvns. Tile existing wage was Is Sd, and at the last conference of employers and employees it was agreed that the question of an increase should lie disclosed in six months' time. On the suggestion of his Honor it was agreed to have a further conference to consider the question of the increase, and if thev did not ayree the matter would again lie brought belVe the Court.
