The enemy was well concealed. Both' British officers were killed, also u Sepoy, while two others were wounded. The tribesmen disappeared. The Turkish forces which threatened Basra had been entrenching at Sukhesslicyukli and Xasiriyct, (in the Euphrates. Our force, in spite of determined resistance, drove out the enemy, capturing' seven Turkish officers, 8:1 regulars, and some Arabs. Our casualties were 25 killed and 81 wounded. The Turks retired below Nasiriyct, whence tliev made several attempts to dislodge us, but were easily repulsed. We launched an attack ori the 13th against the enemy's flank. The 24th Punjabis encountered unexpected resistance and suffered considerably. The operations are progressing.
