Mrs. Francis, who was TW years old, was one of the oldest identities Jierc, and for many years had kept a general store in Devon Street West. 'Mrs. Francis -wis •the relict of the late Mr. T. W. Francis, and she left two sons. A very pleasant little function took place last evening at the KaWaroa Park bungalow, when the late secretary. Mr. .1. P. iMahon Box, was fnrcwelled by the West End Foreshore Improvement Society. The president, Mr. A. K.jKykes, made the presentation, which took the form of a traveling rug, and spoke of Mr. Box's great enthusiasm and the amount of work that had been accomplished since Mr. Box took office some two years ago, and expressed the hone that when lie retvvned he would see that the West End still continued to make great strides in being one of" the beauty spots of New Plymouth. Mr. Box, in replying, said lie was sorry to leave the West End Foreshore Improvement Society, and hoped on his return to pay a flying visit to his old field of labors.
