A letter received in Ohristchurch -from Papeete states that the San Francisco mail steamer ifnrama had a somewhat r .toiiny passage from Wellington to Harotonga. Between the latter port and Tahiti a concert on board realised ever .01 for the funds in aid of the New Zealand wounded soldiers and the Red Cross. It was hoped to increase the amount to .00 during the voyage. A meeting of the New Plymouth Ladies' Patriotic Committee was held yesterday to consider a letter which the Mayoress of (ii-dior-nc had sent to tho Governor and the Prime Minister! suggesting that New Zealand should do more in helping the wounded. Another hospital ship and a further field hospital were suggested amongst other things. The letter was fully discussed, and it was decided that if anything was done in the direction suggested New Plymouth would do all it could to assist.
