A serious accident happened at the railway crossing at 'King .Street, Newmarket, this afternoon, liobeit Barber, baker and confectioner, of Ivarangaliape Road, who was driving a trap out of ■ town to his farm in the country, went by way of Newmarket, and at the Kinc j. Street crossing, which lias been tilt scene of a number of bad accidents 011 previous occasions, his conveyance was run into by the incoming Kaipara train, at about half-past four. The hors_> was killed instantly, and the vehicle iva-: smashed into matchwood. Barber was thrown out and was severely injured. ' lie was unconscious when picked up, ami _ was at once taken to the hospital.
DROPPED DKAD AT BILLIARDS. Invcrcargill, Last Night. The piJlice have received word that Robert Henderson, aged 70, a man of independent means, dropped dead this evening while playing billiards at Waikaia.
