The Prime Minister has received "the following cablegram from the High Commissioner:—"l have been informed by the New Zealand Shipping Company that the East Asiatic Company at Copenhagen are approaching firms in New Zealand asking them to act aa agents for a steamer service from the Continent to New Zealand, This company has in the past had close working arrangements with German lines, and it is suspected that the object of the proposed line is to protect the position of Germans later on. NORTH AUCKLAND BUTTER OUTPUT. Whangarei, Last Night. The question whether the Whangarei Freezing Company or the Auckland Freezing Company should export the butter output of the Whangarei, Hikurangi, Parua Bay, Waipu, and Waikiekic Dairy Companies was practically settled in favor of Auckland. Three weeks ago Mr. A. Rowlands, of the Whangarei Freezing Company, offered to a conference of the dairy companies :'n Whangarei to erect a butter store at tli.i freezing works, and store the export for one shilling per box, the Auckland rate being Is IJd. Mr. Rowlands stipulated that the companies should guarantee the freezing company their annual output (about 30,000 boxes) for a number of years, and the conference appointed 1111 executive to receive the respective decisions of the companies. The executive met twice, but there was no word received from Iliktirangi. Finally, this week-end Mr. Rowlands laid his scheme before Hikurangi, which decided to support Auckland for the present. The remaining companies being unable to guarantee HO,OOO boxes annually, on an approximate basis, the Whangarei o(W falls through. BELGIAN DIMIGRATION.
