The following incident in Ihe Wvqnay links'is '.ouch, d fee by one n!' IV players mentioned in it: Two players who had only been introduced that'day were playing a. round, and eame to the short llitli hole. He who had the honor jestingly remarked: "1 don't wish to win this hole by intimidation, but 1 may is well tell you that when I was last down here 1 did this hole in one." lie was it little taken aback when his opponent was able truthfully to reply: "Yes, that is the best I have done it in."
The Inglewood links have greatly improved during the past few years, and the visitors from the New Plyinou'h Club on Thursday found the links in excellent, order. Some phi vers who luul not visited Inglewood for four or live yea's noted the remarkable improvements that have been made on the links. The fairway is generally good, the naturi! bunkers are well employed to catch the pull and slice, and the greens play keenly and true—in fact, the greens in the condition they were in on Thursday will compare favorably with the best greens in Taranaki. The course is only nine holes, but the club now has in hand a proposal to take in more property anl make a full eighteen hole course.
Says the Sydney Referee of a recent date:—Tlie following point arose at Manly on Saturday. A player in making his second stroke lost his ball, and after looking for it for a time left Ins opponent and tlie two caddies to look for it, while lie returned to the place from where lie had hit and played another ball. Having dene so, his caddie announced that the first ball was found, whereupon the player, who was doubtful —as was his partner—whether he had searched the necessary five miu-
utes, continued playing with the first ball, as he was of the opinion that the would be disqualified, if he holed out witli, the second, as he had not complied with the definition which states that no ball can be considered "lost" until it is searched for for live, minutes. What penalty did the player incur? The following is the ruling applicable, and is certainly very little known: Ashford Golf Club.—ln a stroke competition A played two shots, and could not find his ball.
