N.P.H.S., at NVw Plvniouth; Stratford District lli-h School v. New Plymouth Technical College, at .Stratford. SATURDAY, JULY 24. Seniors: Okato v. Tukapa, at Okato. TAKANAKI UL'CtBY UN I OX.

A meeting of the Taranaki Rughy Union was held at Stratford on Thursday night, when there were present: Messrs .las. McLcod (chairman), A. ITawen, W. B. Fearon, K. Natter, P. Skogland (secretary), and It. Masters (treasurer). It was decided that the play oil' between ixaponga and Haw-era Seniors should be played at Manaia on Saturday, July 24. As only two rounds are being played in the Southern Division Senior Competition, only three rounds will bo played i't the Northern Division instead of four, as originally intended. The question of revising the condition.'; attaching to the Bayly Scholarship was further discussed, and was then held over until next Saturday, when it will be finally settled. Kaponga Second Juniors appealed agai-nst a match being awarded to Okaiawa Second Juniors, on the ground that the latter had included a first junior in their team. The matter was referred to Okinawa for an explanation. W. Koch, referee, reported W. Drinkwater, line umpire in n match, for objectionable conduct toward* himself. It was resolved to ask Mr. Drinkwater for an explanation. Clifton Juniors protested against Stratford Juniors being awarded the match on the ground that Stratford had played some senior men. The protest was sustained, and the match awarded to Clifton. Stratford admitted that they played senior men, but stated that their object was to give tho men a game. It wns decided to ask Auckland to pay a visit to Taranaki this year. In the event of Auckland making the trip to Taranaki, the local team will return Wellington's visit.

NEWS AND NOTES. The third and final round of the senirr competition will commence this afternoon, when Clifton will meet Tukapa at Waitara. Tukapa hold the honors uf the two previous meetings, the first match resulting in a draw at Waitara, whilst the second ended in a win for the town team by 10 points to nil. Today Clifton will have a team that will probably be strengthened by the inclusion of several of the club's old players on furlough from Trcntham, and a keen, hard game should result, the issue of which will probably be in doubt until the final whistle.

The match between Okato and Clifton, postponed owing to the rain last week, will be played at the conclusion of the third round. Footballers this year have not been treated very kindly by the weather so far.

By defeating Hawera last Saturday by 6 points to nil, Kaponga drew level with the amber and Macks for the division premiership, and, as the Southern Division clubs are only playing two rounds, a play-off is rendered necessary, and will eventuate next Saturday at Manaia.

The play-off for the Provincial Championship will be decided by one match, as was the ease in previous years. The union favors three play-offs, but considers that the present is not an opportune year to introduce that innovation. It is pleasing to note that clubs have responded so loyally to the Taranaki Rugy Union's appeal for financial assistance that mainly owing to their efforts the debit balance of £64 with which the union faced the opening of the season i had been wiped out. The clubs that gave donations were: Stratford £ls 15s, Waimatc £ls 15s, Waitara £l2 15s. Hawera £lO 10s, Kaponga £5; total £59 15s. As some of the donations were tentative on the whole amount being subscribed, members present at thy meeting made up the balance as follows: Messrs Jas. McLeod £l, E. Nalder £l, A. Hansen £l, R. Masters £1 Is, and W. B. Fearon 10s. In addition, Tukapa Club has donated the union an amount of about £Ki, sufficient to wipe oft' an account that did not appear on the balance-sheet.

Keg. Taylor, the popular Clifton, Taranaki, and' New Zealand representative, who is leaving shortly with the Sixth Reinforcements, as a member of the Otago Infantry, was a visitor to New Plymouth on furlough last week. Looking lit and well, Reg, was lucky enough (o escape the influenza and measles epidemic. He will probably be assisting Clifton at Waitara {his afternoon. Rupert Nicholls. the Inglov.'ood playr. 'who was severely wounded at the Dardanelles, returned'lo New Zealand by the U'illochra. and was expected to reach lnglewood on Friday evening, lnglewoo.l footballers could be relied upon to join with the townspeople in giving their plucky comrade a lifting welcome.
