Later another hundred arrived, and were quartered in the public school buildings. The nun's original destination was the Waikanae ctinip, but, on arrival there, they found that owing to the flood there was no room, and they v. ore sent 011 here. Yesterday all the men were moved to the school buihii.':gs, which now contain liol men, under Captain .lolly. The Wcraroa Hall has been set aside as a hospital. There are si veu cases. Rhodes, do not appear to be profiting by their experience of the results of a policy of secrecy. They have moved Treiitliam camp, anil tbey have accepted, since they met their party caucus, -.omo of the suggestions that have been made to them for the improvement of •Jip conditions under which the, troopß are living, but they are still withholding !.-inanition regarding: (1) The nature of the illness that ha* afflicted the troops end (2) the number of men who have suffered.

The Ministers do not deny that the men have heen suffering from something worse than measles or influenza, but I hey make no definite statement, though the medical staff in charge of the troops must, Purely !;no\v the truth by this time. The efforts of your correspondent to secure official figures regarding the number of soldiers who have fallen victims to sickness of one. kind or another have been unsuccessful. It is possible that
some statistics may be mailable .today. The estimate of a member of Parliament that I (>OO man have suffered during roct nt weeks may prove not very wide of the mark. The patients are scattered over a wide area, and several hundreds of men are on sick leave. The number of hospitals in use at the present timo has not been stated officially. There are patients at the Wellington public hospital, the Berhampore hospital, the Kaiwara convalescent home, the Trentham (Igppita], the Trentham racecourse, bniW- •»>. and the Herein.n. Then flu-re are sick soldiers in various hom-H in llentaunga, and there are hundreds "partially sick" doing; light duties with the various units.
