DISTRICT NEWS.

Ill'lfUXtif. (From Our Own Cori.'Sjiondent.) The usual fortnightly on-lire parte wa-; held i u the hall on ,lune ;io, anli drew :i. good attendance. twelve tableand a half being occupied. Miss ,1. Bennett won the lady's pri>:;> (umbrella). with Leu game-.; Mj.-> A. Smith second t box „f htmlkeribief.-l, nine games and a half. Mr. Bonnie, i.f W'aitara, gave the prizes at half-cod. The men's prize was won by .Mr. \V. .McCaul, with eleven garner ami he took the pair of :-pii>-s donated by Mr. Cliappcll, Waitara: .Mr. .1. Taylo r, second (tobacco pouch), with ten games. The booby prizes were won by Mr. U A. Sarteii anil 'Miss Keueley. Afler refreshments, dancing was indulged in till 1 a.m.. the miNic being supplied by 'Miss ('a it, W'aitara. Mr. J. Kay acted as M.C. The. traction-engine and road-roller which the Waitara "West Road Board hail iu the district .to improve some of the roads had to depart without carrying out its intentions, owing to the continued wet weather. I understand that it will lie available again later on, when Ihe weather conditions p.re more likely to he favorable for the work which requires its services.

Some little time hack it was thought that the board had under [deration the purchase of a small grader, and it seems a pity that the proposal should have dropped, for such an implement would help to keep many oT the roads iij far better order than they are at present. As regards horses for working such a machine, no doubt farmers abutting roads requiring the use of the machine would, in most eases,-supply them free of charge. The Waitara Dairy, Company has just closed upon another year, which, J think, will again reveal a record season. This factory has had. T think, tilt l highest average test iu Xew Zealand fir several years, and it goes to prove that the. farmer is beginning to realise that it pays to keep only the best in the way of milk production and butter fat. Tliat the farmers in this locality are culling out and breeding a much improved class of dairy cow there is no doubt. Tlie more extensive eultivation for green feed and various root crops, and the. liberal use of agricultural manures, the more the dairyman's income will be swelled, and also to bring our little facttlrv to its pre-ent good position. The supply of milk this coming season promises well, and the directors have on baud a small addition to the main building to pro vide more room. Mr. Sid Sai ten is erecting a. new house on his farm, and intends letting Ms herd of cows on shares. Mr. T.ethbridge has arrived from South Taranaki, and has taken possession of the farm lately occupied by Mr. J. Pentecost, who has bought a farm at Oakura. Mr. .Tames ipurdie is the latest convert to the motor-car; wdio'll be the next?
