The evening I passed pleasantly with mn.-ical items j remieivil by various members, and accompanied by .Mrs. Hooker. ! 'I he weather here of late has been any- I thing but pleasant, and is cau-ing a lack of feed. The local factory is paying out the annual bonus cheques this mouth, and about :Cf>U(io will i>e circulated thereby. On Thursday last, Mr. 11. Corhett was married to Miss Ruby Andrews, daughter (.1 Mrs. C. Andrews. A reception Wits held in the llemptou Hall in the evening, about three hundred people being present. A happy evening was spent in dances and music, Mr. C. And;e\v» proving himself a worthy host. Mr. and '.Mrs. Corhett left the same evening oil a honevmoon trin to the, llot hakes district.
KATIOTU. Last Hale d;iy ;i largo crowd (if ladi.'S :ui(l gentlemen arrived at the hall from between I! o'clock and -1.30 pin., to take afternoon tea in the supper room, in aid of tlie wounded soldiers and sailors. The refreshments, which were very nice, were provided by the following:—Mesdanvs Hughson, Dawson, Feathcrston and Knowles. Mrs. Knowles acted as secretary, and was taken. These ladies waited unceasingly im tlie quests, and Mr. Featherson assisted lliem with the preparation of tea making. Our local ladies have decided to continue this afternoon tea on sale davs for the winter months. Mesdamos Wright, Wilcox, Ward, and Miss Dew provide the refreshments next time. On Wednesday afternoon a. sewing lice was held, and many garments were again cut out. A meeting of the subscribers to the first aid society was held in the supper room of the hall on Saturday evening. Mrs. (Iroom being in the chair. The secretary, Mrs. W. R. Wright, having read the minutes of last meeting, ami rtating the object of calling the present one, it was proposed by Mr Parsons, seconded by Mrs. Dawson, and carried, ''that the name of the society be the Kahotu First Aid Society." It was proposed by Mr. (iibson, seconded by Mrs. Wilcox, and carried, "time the first meeting of the new society be held on Wednesday, 28th duly, at "..'ld, when a class will be formed for receiving infitruetion in first aid, and arrangements will be made to have a competent inPtructor present, also that each member bring a friend to this meeting. The Rahotu Hairy Company will be paying a further three pence farthing per 111 butter-fat at the end of tl.ii month, their total pay-out for the year being fifteen pence half-penny. The present manager (Mr L- Kvansj has iM'en reinstated for the coming year. Toe annual meeting will he beid about the 28th of this month. ' A record crop of swedes is to be | neen on-Mr (Jeorge Cib.-on's farm. Ma- | nihi road, about forty tons to the acre.
